Rules

The European Stone Stacking Championships costs nothing to enter and is open to both professionals and amateurs alike. Please note that rules are subject to change.

Adult Solo Artistic Competition

Competitors will have four hours in which to create their artistic design. It must contain at least 3 stacked stones, one upon the other, but you may be as creative as you like in your design.
Competitors may not use outside help in creating their artwork.
Your artwork may contain materials found in the competition area, such as stones. wood, seaweed, metal, etc.
You must not bring in any materials from outside the beach. Doing so is grounds for disqualification.
Scores will be based entirely on the subjective opinions of the judges.

Adult Quantity Event

Adult Competitors will have 20 minutes in which to complete their stack. They must only stack one stone upon another. No supporting pebbles or wedges may be used to stabilise a stack.
Competitors must compete solo. No outside help can be provided with lifting, collecting or moving rocks.
You may only begin collecting stones for your stack when this is announced and not before.
Competitors are allowed to use footstools or ladders.
Use of any adhesive or outside support system is not allowed.
Competitors may use rocks found on the competition beach only.
In no case is throwing or tossing rocks allowed. Competitors must personally carry all rocks to and from their stacking area. Throwing or tossing stones will be grounds for disqualification.
Once a rock has been carried into a competitors stacking area, it may not be removed or used by another competitor.
At the end of 20 minutes, time will be called and competitors must stop stacking.
Competitors may submit their entry before the 20 minutes are up.
In the event of a tie there will be a short 2 minute stone stack off to determine the winner.
Judges decisions are final.

Junior (Under 15) & Families Artistic Competition

Competitors will have four hours in which to create their artistic design. It must contain at least 3 stacked stones one upon the other but you may be as creative as you like in your design.
Competitors may not use outside help in creating their artwork.
Your artwork may contain materials found in the competition area, such as stones. wood, seaweed, metal etc.
You must not bring in any materials from outside the beach. Doing so is grounds for disqualification.
Scores will be based entirely on the subjective opinions of the judges.

Junior (Under 15) Quantity Event

Competitors will have 10 minutes in which to complete their stack. They must only stack one stone upon another. No supporting pebbles or wedges may be used to stabilise a stack. No adhesive or outside support systems are allowed.
Competitors must compete solo. No outside help can be provided with lifting, collecting or moving rocks. Parental supervision and spoken support is expected.
You may only begin collecting stones for your stack when this is announced and not before.
Competitors may use rocks found on the competition beach only.
At the end of 10 minutes, time will be called and competitors must stop stacking.
In the event of a tie there will be a short timed stone stack off to determine the winner.
Judges decisions are final.

Winners

The overall winner of all 4 Adult events qualifies for a place at the coveted World Rock Stacking Championships 2026 at Llano Earth Art Festival in Texas, USA. The prize is the payment of their flight to the festival.
